The Animated Series' Creator Is Aware of Your Second Season Bingo Cards — And She Has Good News
The much-anticipated Season 2 of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform this week, and fan speculation has been rampant.
The first season presents a diverse group of characters living within Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds with musical numbers about their clashes, and builds heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Will a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with fan service as the main goal," the showrunner commented recently. "But I believe that me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by the production companies, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how fast season 2 progresses, and how much of what they're anticipating happens now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some really amazing reveals, some really cool backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — especially in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a few fans create a bingo card about season 2," she mentions. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've actually done a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on Prime Video on October 29.
